A Don't wipe your ball Study??
« on: December 07, 2013, 09:06:34 PM »
Has anyone heard of a study that say's not to wipe your ball off between shots?

This is form a post in another forum and was told to a bowler by his pro shop operator(a X pro bowler):

"Latest research says not to wipe the ball off (Between shots), that it does more damage then good."

" when studied, under scientific conditions, they found it does more harm then good"

"also said: Latest research says not to wipe the ball off, that it does more damage then good.
He said even with the absorbent new towels it actually pushes more oil into the balls. This was, according to him tested and proven with scientific equipment."

So has anyone ever heard of this study or have a link to it.

Oil rings are where the ball actually touches the lane. If you wipe the ball off it gets the build up off your track and moves some around to the rest of the ball. Since that part of the ball is touching the lane I do not see it being an issue to the ball.

Nice...... I was recommended to wipe off the ball by a PBA pro.  He said to do it because it gets less oil on your bowling hand.

Funny,

I notice a lot of righties on tour don't seem to.  I could see this with the dry heads and midlanes that develop over there(why not leave some oil on the ball for better push in the heads etc).

On the left usually when fresh I always wipe to take advantage of dry surface for flaring over the typically wet head and midlanes lately at my house!  Now the other day as I started really splicing in a pot match I did not wipe as it seemed or looked like I was hitting the half board I was aiming at on both lanes and I loved the line.

Half board, now that is a rarity for me (and not something I believe is necessary on league or after league), but they did hand me a touch of green!
