best ball surface for outside lines?

my pap= 3 1/2 over and 1/2 up. wondering what surface would be best for outside lines for me? right now anything above a storm hit and i can't get anything to get a consistent reaction. generally, the more polish and smoother surface, would it be more bouncy off the dry? should i try polishing more, or take some off? any suggestions?i have tried a recharge polished to 1000, but it is way too aggressive off the dry. what about drilling a hybrid hot rod?

With a track like that, I'm surprised you're using polish. I would think your equipment would generally work better with more surface. Generally, more polish makes the ball more snappy (less reaction to oil, more reaction to dry). I would try the Recharge after dulling it down with green Scotchbright on a spinner, no polish.

Big problem. With such low track your ball might generally react uncontrollably. One option might be trying to play a deeper line, where normally more oil is available. The ball will skid longer and hooking be postponed a bit.

Sanding the surface will smooth out ball recation, but I doubt that it would work on an outside line. Boards tend to be dry, and the ball might brun up and turn even earlier, so that you might not reach the pocket at all?

I'd try the deeper shot first. If you want to stay with the outside line, a finer grit polish might help, but I would not place a bet on it.

I would look into the Abralon pads...  sounds as though the 2000 grit or the 4000 grit would work well for you.  They leave the ball surface with a "sheen" type of finish, but without using polish.  My experience is that they seem to get nice length, similar to a polished ball, but keep a smooth backend, similar to a sanded ball...

dbbowler, i too have learned over the years to stay up the back of the ball, but even still i sometimes get an over reaction, especially with pearl equipment. i experimented the last half of the season this year with a diablo at 1000 grit, no polish. this is pretty close to what i'm looking for, and i also might drill up a tropical storm with the pin in the palm to try to tame the bounce, so that i can keep a little shine on it. thanks for the response! stopncrank

hot rod hybrid is a great wet/dry lane ball and can be used on a THS on the dryer outside OOB, i have one it does that very well, my agent is great ball on top of the Hybrid and they are a pretty good two ball combo

Agreed...2000 no polish can be a very versatile surface.  It has become my surface of choice on 2 out of the 3 balls I've tried it on.
