Lightweight spareball?
« on: January 25, 2008, 12:37:41 AM »
I've been told that by using a lighter spare(plastic) ball isn't good for your consistancy, in the unfortunate event of leaving alot of 10 pins, and going back and forth all night between the two different weights.  Anyone have any input or experience on this?  I still am thinking about trying a 10 or 12 pound plastic for my 10 pins, I struggle with them alot, especially on our wood lanes which give alot of friction on the end of the lane.

I use a 14lb spare ball compared to 15lb everything else, just because the pro shop was out of 15lb plastic equipment on the day I absolutely needed to buy a spare ball.  It doesn't really make any difference for me since it's only one pound.  HOWEVER dropping further than that will result in a big difference in feel on your armswing.  Do you honestly have trouble with your plastic equipment hooking that much on the 10 pin?  Are you using the same exact release for your 10pin that you do for your strike ball?

I used a 14# ball last season ( use 15# normally) and just wasn't 'feeling' right. Not a timing issue, just didn't feel right so this year I went back to 15# and have increased my conversion rate.

Nothing wrong with dropping a pound, just wasn't for me. Several guys/ladies I bowl with drop a pound but never seen/heard of anyone dropping that many pounds between balls.

I use 15# everything except for my spare ball. The spare ball is about 12 or 13#'s. I never weighted it. I pulled it off the rack one day and threw it in practice and couldn't miss with it. A little different story nowadays but still a good ball. I use it for all single 3-6-9 and 10 pins and 6-10 and 3-10 combos only. No problems with my arm swing although I do square up more when I throw it than my strike ball. Be careful when using it on double wood. The ball deflects alot because of it's light weight.
