beatn cover stock
« on: September 03, 2007, 08:03:07 AM »
Im thinking I want to sand the coverstock alittle rougher than the OOB condition. I was wondering if this is one of those things to leave to the pro shop or something I can do by hand

Leave it to the pro shop.  They will have the equipment and knowledge to get you the ball reaction you want.  Having a lower grit surface will make the ball get into its roll earlier and make the breakpoint a little less angular, but you also don't want it to roll too early.  Let your pro shop know what kind of ball reaction you want and they should know what to do to help you out.

It depends on the pad you use. If you use a white scotch bright pad or a 2000 abralon pad you wont take to much of the ball and you will see a little more early roll. How ever if you use say a green scotch bright or a 500 abralon pad you may completly lose your backend reaction all together. If you have the pads, you can do it yourself. If you dont let the proshop do it, because they will know what to do. Also if you do have the pads, there is nothing holding you back from using the pads by hand. You really dont need a spinner, because a spinner with pads makes the grit more fine and less true to what the pads grit really is. When used by hand a 2000 abralon pad is gona leave a more true 2000 abralon finish, yet when by spiner it could be closer to 4000 abralon because of the speed a spinner spins.
