Track Marks
« on: October 27, 2005, 09:25:12 PM »
Since I bowl two leagues on a wooden surface, I notice that my balls all have track marks, some worse than others. My favorite ball, the Storm recharge has lots of track marks.

Is there a difference when bowling on synthetic or wood when it comes to track marks? I would think that bowling on synthetics wouldn't mark up a ball nearly as fast as wood. I'm also debating if I should resurface the recharge, or get rid of it and buy a new one? New ones may be hard to come by.

Only bowled on one set of wood, but it did track a lot faster than the synthetic we're on now. Keep in mind, there was little to nothing done to the wood for several years, so they were in bad shape, the place is closed now, that's how bad it was.

Several thing contribute to "hash marks", if the boards are not even or have small cracks between the boards then as the ball skids across then it makes the marks, those that loop the ball or swing it seem to generate more "hash marks" than a down and in player, chips or"pot hole" in the heads also will makemarks as well but generally more pronounced.

Synthetics are smoother, basically like bowling on a formica counter top, leave little or no marks except possibly where the sheets are spliced together.
I bowl in a wood house and they are in need of resurfacing bad, to the point where I throw a different ball every night I bowl to hold down the wear and tear on my equipment, I shoot all my spares with a plastic ball to further reduce the damage to my high end equipment.
