Title: Sanding Pads /Pearl Coverstocks
Post by: NY Mike on May 06, 2022, 12:50:39 PM
Hi, all.   Two questions for people experienced with cover stock changes.

      1) I use Abralon pads (usually 1500) on my 900-Realty ball to freshen up the cover, find Abralon pads don't have much of a life span.   Is there a way to clean the pad to expand life span, I have used a bristle brush to clear excess?  What are your favorite pads and which have the best life span.

     2)  does anyone use a 3000/4000 pad on a pearl coverstock to clean up surface ?  If yes, after wiping the surface do you use another cleaner or polish.   Currently have the RG UC2 and have only use ball cleaner on surface.
Thanks.

I finally decided to give CTD pads a chance recently and have liked them a lot compared to abralon and siaair

Re #2: Yes. I'll use cleaner after using a pad. I like to let them lane shine back up

I also recently tried the CTD hand polish and I'm undecided on it, seemed to work fine on one ball but not on another.

1)  The CTD pads are way better than the abralons.  The pads collect the dust in a way that you can hit them against the edge of a table or something else more or less to shake the dust loose and freshen up the pad for continued use.  I believe you can use their pads up to 10 times before you start the see some wear.  I bought a 2000 pad about 2 months ago and use it every other week lightly by hand just to freshen the surface of the ball and the pad still seems to work well.

2)The question to ask yourself is do you want to take your UC2 back to box finish.  What I typically do, is lets say the ball is 4000 plus polish.  I take it down to 2000, apply a cleaner to it, then take it back up to 4000 and add the polish to get it back to original finish.

I have been using 3M Trizact 6" Hookit Foam Discs. They seem to las a good bit longer than abralon or Siaar. They come in the standard 1000, 1500, 3000. I think you would like these..

Thanks! I do have the 5000 Trizact "performance sandpaper" but now I know what to get to go along with it.
