Title: Simple Green-Alcohol Mixture
Post by: Brickguy221 on September 14, 2014, 07:50:20 PM
A bowler I know from another state had a mix of 50-50 Simple Green-Alcohol in a spray bottle for cleaning his bowling balls. He said he had the bottle in his ball bag and hadn't used it for quite some time. When he went to use it the other day, the bottle was empty and rattled. He took the lid off, turned it upside down and a few clear crystals and no liquid came out of it.

Does anyone have any idea what caused this?

I use that combination all the time but I keep it in the garage where I usually clean my equipment.  Works very well.  Don't know what could have happened unless it got too hot in the bag.

it either leaked out or evaporated or a little of both.

That is what I think, but I wonder what could have caused the crystal nuggets?

It would depend on if any minerals were in the solution, contamination from the bottle.

Simple green has something in it that does not evaporate. I've said before that it leaves a residue which must be cleaned off, but people do what they want to do - they hear what they want to hear. So be it. Unless a liquid is pure water or pure alcohol or some other liquid that evaporates completely (e.g. acetone), when that chemical evaporates, there will always, ALWAYS be some residue. How much depends on what the composition of the original liquid was; whether or not you can see it is irrelevant because it is there.
