Storm Step 2
« on: May 31, 2008, 01:35:33 PM »
So I've changed my game, and I'm finding that polished stuff is working a LOT more than it has in the past.  I have a Pyro that is currently at 2000 Abralon, and I want to bring it back to it's OOB 1500 Polished.  I'm in the process of purchasing a 360 pad and Storm Step.  For those of you who have done this, what is the proper procedure?  Sand the ball to 360, then apply the abrasive Step Two is what I'm assuming.  Should I wait before I apply Step 2?  What's the correct way to apply Step 2?  Any and all info would be awesome.  Thank you!

Steve,

In general, unless you're used to using it, I wouldn't use Step2. Try sanding the ball to 800 - 1000 grit and using either Reacta-Shine or Preferably Xtra-SHine, LIGHTLY, by hand, at first. Both are abrasive and will smooth the initial sanding. That's why you want to do it either by hand or VERY LIGHTLY on spinner. Test the first results. If you need more shine, polish a little more, LIGHTLY and GRADUALLY. This is the safest procedure.

I had a feeling you'd chime in on this, lol.  Just curious, why should I shy away from Step 2?  And in your experiences, how has a ball sanded with 1000 and a coat of Xtra-Shine reacted compared to OOB finish?  Thanks for all your help Jeff.

first of all, your using the wrong products to get oob, I think there is some company on BR that keeps advertising about great products that restore the finish to pearl bowling balls. lol.

most of storms polished equipment is sanded to 800 grit and then polished with either a factory only polish, or reactashine/moonshine, so keep that in mind when you are trying to get a pearl back to OOB.

sanding the ball to a 360 abralon then applying a polish will create a ball that will roll sooner and won't save very much energy at all. 360 then polish is just overkill. Sanding a ball to 360, then sanding to 800, then polishing with a 1500 grit polish will bring back most of the oob preformance and would be a more recommended approach to restoring preformance.

If you take a ball down to 360 then use Resurrection, the ball will have an 800 matte sheen grit which is the BEST surface to then apply a polish, which our other product Snake Oil takes over and puts a super tacky 1500 grit polish on the ball restore out of box. The vendetta in the pictures on the website, has gone through the one/two punch (Res then Snake Oil) treatment after every set I bowl for the past 3 months and it has more pop and tourqe today then I've ever had. I shot a 780 in practice this past Wednesday, yes it was on a house shot, but it was almost disgusting how the ball had the perfect skid, hook, roll all 3 games. I didn't even change my line once.
