Title: Steps to make a smoother reaction?

I have a Motiv Silver Recon that Im looking to "smooth out" the reaction some.Its still OOB which I bekieve is 4000 polished.Just has too much length and is too angular when finds friction.
I was thinking of 400 wet sandpaper plus Snake Oil or maybe Ruff Buff.

Try something without the polish. Maybe 2000 or so. It will read earlier, but be less snappy late.

Ai Im using this ball for light oil Im worried 2000 might make it too strong to use on these conditions

If you are worried, then start with 4000 unpolished.

If you polish it to high heaven it will go longer and snap harder once it finds adequate friction. Without the polish (2000 - 4000) will smooth out reaction.  Can you make a small move inward to get some skid, to compensate for the absence of polish?

A weight hole on the PAP will smooth out the reaction
(if it weighs out properly)

I didn't respond to this originally because I'm still surprised you got such a reaction out of one of the mildest reacting resins I have ever seen. I suspect you're using it on too much oil and what you're seeing isn't actually true light oil for which it was designed. Maybe it's just the lightest oil you have seen in a long time? I wonder if a slightly stronger ball wouldn't conserve so much energy for the backend. Not strong, just slightly stronger than the Silver Recon.

In any case, I would start with 4000 grit dull/matte finish. It will reduce length and backend with very slight overall increase in hook. 400 grit + polish will possibly be earlier than 4000 grit matte, depending on the polish and how much you apply.

+1,the Recon Pearl is the weakest Resin ball I own.I get an almost urethane like reaction with mine.As Charlest stated,If you are going to alter the surface,do so in steps.Start by taking the ball to 4000,then try 3000,then 2000 until you find the reaction you are looking for.Good luck!
