Sanity check - cover change on a UI after elixir and hook again

Ok, please sanity check me. I bought a UI used, estimated it at a bit higher than 1000. It was a hook monster... I loved it.... 40 feet, hard turn.

It started getting squirrely in oil, and being unsure of the games on it, I did the following:

1. Sand to 1000
2. Hook again for 48 hours
3. scuffed with burgundy scotch brite pad
4. Applied Doc's per instructions


Result = straight ball.

This is not what I wanted    ;(

In theory, it will track back out and start working I hope???? Or is the Doc killing me?
Yes, I kow I should not have done all that to it at once, but what's done is done. question is where to from here....

The best bet to start with would have been to take it down to like 400 then hook again and then bring it back up to the desired surface 1000 or whatever is desired.  The box condtion is 800 but you probably knew that.

Docs does make the ball go longer, try it in the box condition or at least 800 sand.

John, I was buying a load of balls, no clue where it came from or I would have done that already  

It's around box now, plus Doc's.

I'm sure going to 800 will not be what I had, since it was (IMHO) compunded at least or higher...

Thanks for the ideas. I think the basic sanity check is that Doc's will make it go longer. However, that being true, I would expect a snappier reaction, which is definitely not what I'm getting.
Further question. Would I be wrong in assuming Doc's = length = reaction like polish? If so, then I need to try two things:

1. 800 sand
2. Compound.

lefty50 -- Burgundy ScotchBrite is equivalent to ~400 grit sandpaper, so you may have the surface to a point that the ball's burning out.  Try 800 - 1000 grit, if it still doesn't hook, try polish.  --  JohnP

Brunswick recommends heating to extract the oil.

I tried it on my regular inferno. Worked 100%.

I second JohnP's suggestion.
If you need to polish it, sand it to 320grit first than polish to 600.

I have found that when using Doc's elixir
You might want to prep the ball 1 or 2 steps
below what you want.

Example

If you want 1000

Sand to 320
Polish to about 6 or 800
Then apply the elixir

lefty50 - I want to try and help you out here.  What was the state of the cover when it was a hook monster?  Polished, matte or sanded?

Have you tried throwing another ball on the same shot to see if it's the ball or the lane condition changing.  You did not state that so I am assuming that the lanes have not changed.

Can you tell if the ball is skidding down the lane or is the core laying down and rolling out?

I would suggest that if you use the Elixir on your UI that you take the cover to 600-800 and apply the Elixir then go back to the lanes and see if it makes a difference.

You should not have seen that drastic of a change with the application of the Elixir.
