Title: That Purple Stuff Review (PART 1) by Lane Side Reviews
Post by: Aloarjr810 on November 29, 2015, 11:21:38 AM
I'm taking this with a grain of salt and it's hardly a in depth comparison cleaners.

He compares it against alcohol, Storm extra clean All purpose cleaner (which he doesn't use himself to begin with)

He brings the Perception vs reality video into it.

and Simple green kills a ball.

The tidbit about balls having something on them from the factory was interesting.

The purple stuff is Expensive! $13.99 $15 (on sale for $12.99)for a 4oz. bottle and they want you to use it after every shot (In other words use it up FAST & Buy more)

I'd love to try some first before spending that on a new product, They need to give out some free samples.

I bought some and was impressed with the results. I even let others use it and they wanted some as well. I've used a lot of different products and this has to be the best I've seen. My favorite was always the Lane Masters cleaners and this Purple Stuff can be used during league play. I didn't clean it after every shot, but more after each game. It doesn't take much and I used a micro fiber towel. I had a few that was hitting the pocket and I was watching him leave 10 pin after 10 pin. He said it's not my night and he was using a hp Storm ball. I said do you want to try some Purple Stuff cleaner? He said it couldn't hurt. The next pitch he left a 9 pin and he said at least it wasn't a 10 pin. The ball did seem to have a little more angle going through the pins. Was it a natural transition? I don't know, but he did strike out in the 10th frame after using the Purple Stuff. I don't have an axe to grind in this, all I can do is tell what I saw. I'm more of a down an in player with not a lot of revs. When I start leaving corner pins I clean it with Purple Stuff. It could be more mental for me being a lower rev player, but it seems to help. I'm also going to be 60 on my next birthday and I'll take all the help I can get! Just my $.02, Bruce

I saw on another thread about this stuff that it contains methanol and Glutaraldehyde.

Both methanol and Glutaraldehyde are toxic; glutaraldehyde is not a carcinogen .

In any case, I am NOT using this stuff under any conditions. I'll stick with Remedy and LMB International's (formerly LaneMasters) cleaner.

In my opinion,  Storm's cleaner sucks. The Powerhouse (ebonite) is much better. Remedy, Vise and BDS are all a step above that. Of course the LMB and others that are not legal during competition are a different breed altogether.

If they want to show us how well this does or does not work, compare against something other than Storm's weak ass product.

I think we should praise Lane Side for trying. It's a great video comparing rival products!!

I appreciate the effort it takes to make the video, although 36 minutes is way too long to compare the three.

F.Y.I., the LMB Cleaner is on the Approved Anytime list on Bowl.com.  The previous generation was not when under the Original Lane Masters Company,  but now that they are LMB International's it is approved.

The new cleaner, under LMB International name, has added the word "Extreme" to the name.
I just purchased the new one and I intend to compare it to the old one marketed by the former LaneMasters company, before it was purchased by California Bowling (distributor of Lord Field and the new Lane Masters balls). I will report back what I see, in the short term and in the long term.

eating between frames, cleaning with TPS between frames, not washing hands betwen frames.....exposure to Toxicity, over time can mess you up.....

I can adjust to ten pins..... ;)

I've used alcohol for years and decided to try something new this year due to a recommendation from my pro shop. I purchased some Monster Tac and I couldn't be happier. It's by far the best cleaner that I have ever used. It takes scuff marks off the ball with ease and leaves my bowling balls tacky feeling. I haven't experienced any lane shine on them either. I would recommend it to anyone.

The little comment about Simple Green confused me.  It is on the USBC approved cleaner list. I do get that it is not made to clean bowling balls.

I will say I use the 50/50 simple green/alcohol combo and throw the ball on my spinner with either Clean And Dull or Neo-Tac Renew-It every 10 games or so.  Seems to work fine with my stuff.  But then again it seems I bowl on dirt more often than oil.

I'm sorry if this offends anyone, but all I can think about when I see the name is this clip.

As promised, I tried the new LMB International cleaner, now marketed as "Extreme High Performance bowling ball cleaner for about 3 different cleanings at 3 different centers. I can say, that it appears to clean just as well as the old, removing ground in oil lines as well as the old one. The main difference seems to be the almost lack of the extremely strong smell/aroma/"fragrance" that the old one has.

Those ground-in oil lines are the one thing that no water-based cleaner has yet, as far as  I have seen, been able to remove. Only this cleaner, Hook-It and Clean and Dull have removed them.

I got a bottle of the LMB International Extreme High Performance bowling ball cleaner.  To me, it smells like there is acetone / nail polish remover in the cleaner.  It almost smells identical to it.  So far it seems to clean ok.  I don't see it leaving the ball "squeaky" clean and as tacky as other cleaners

Are the ground in flare llnes removed?  charlest reports that they are removed which no other approved cleaner during competition does including TPS.  ONLY Hook-It and CandD remove flare lines and they are before/after competition....what's your finding?

I did also and felt the same way about the smell....strong for sure. What other cleaners do you feel leaves the ball more tacky? I thought that it did a great job at getting the balls tacky.

As far as tacky feel after cleaning, I think Zappit Ball Cleaner is the tackiest.  I can almost palm a 15 lb ball after cleaning it.   But thinking about it, who is to say that means anything on the lanes. It could just mean that the cleaner getting my hand moist makes it so my hand sticks to the ball the most.. I would like to see a friction test on a piece of lane surface.  Remedy X and Tac UP also seem pretty tacky as well.  I will say that the LMB Extreme does get dirt off the ball.  It picks the dirt off the ball very quickly.  Zappit and TPS also seem to do a similar job with the dirt.

I think Zappit might be my favorite, just because it is the only one that seems to work really well and doesn't have some sort of unpleasant smell  They also have a Zappit Ball Stripper that is supposed to be a stronger cleaner.  I think they are in the process of approving it with the USBC.
