polish vs 2000 grit
« on: June 18, 2008, 06:26:34 AM »
lets say I use a product (in this case resurrection) and then polish over it, with mild pressure. very similar to what I would call 1500 grit polish.

now would this be stronger then 2000 grit or weaker.

I have a LM buzz and am really unsure if I want to leave it at 2000 or hit it with res. and polish.

Im asking because I dont have time this week to try it out and give it proper time to tell me if its at the right surface. if it is possibly stronger then im willing to polish it.

any ideas?

According to the VB page, Resurrection leaves a roughly 800-grit surface.  That's subject to any number of factors and it's possible to end up with something close to 1500-grit if you use it for a longer period of time.  Adding a light polish (assuming a grit-less one) on top of that will, I think, be duller than a typical 1500-grit polished surface like, for instance, many Storm balls.

I think that will be a little longer than a real 2000-grit surface.  The 2K-grit will not be quite as susceptible to carrydown as it won't actually be polished.  Should be slightly smoother at the breakpoint, too.

Which is stronger?  I don't think they'll be different enough to make it worthwhile to have two otherwise-identical balls in an arsenal.  I think they'll handle comparable amounts of oil, though the 2000-grit should be very slightly stronger.

thanks shelly.

I already have my lane 1 evolution with res. with snake oil on top. so I wanted to make sure I didnt have 2 balls with the same surface, even if both balls react differently.

Id rather have the buzz give me a different look.

I agree with shelley. But if it's a 2000 Abralon pad, according the latest findings that 2000 Abralon is really 1000 grit, then the ball should pick up noticably sooner than if it were prepped at 1500 polished.

PLUS - what do you mean by "stronger"?
some people mean earlier and more hook some people mean more backend.

2000 grit matter/dull will always be earlier than 1500 grit polished.
