Why do you use WET Scotchbrite instead of DRY Scotchbrite?

What's the real benifits of using a WET vs. DRY Scotchbrite pad when sanding?

I've always used it dry when sanding... when sanding a ball, should I be using the Scotchbrite pads wet... why should I keep "misting" the ball with a spray bottle?

1. I don't like the dust I get dry sanding.
2. I believe the wet makes for less friction and a smoother surface.

I had read somewhere that dry was a finer finish and wet would cut coarser, just the opposite of sandpaper.  So, to anyone out there who knows, which is it?

the liquid is used to keep the ball and pad from getting too hot due to friction.  excessive heat is not good for the ball, or your hand!!!

In my experience over the years, I seem to get much more hook dry scotch briting a ball early in a set compared to wet. When our lanes are really oily to start, I dry scotch brite the ball. As the lanes fade, so does the ball.

Duh! Bottom line is to reduce the risk of lung cancer!
Every dust has the potential to cause serious personal physical damage, even wood dust. Plastics, urethanes and resins are DEADLY to human life.

Every operation on a bowling ball SHOULD be with an industrail strength nose and mouth filter. Since we are obviously not going to do with one SHOULD
TAKE EVERY PRECAUTION THAT IS POSSIBLE, whether or not your male ego agrees or disagrees.
