What does your proshop use to resurface?
« on: March 18, 2004, 10:45:53 AM »
We use scotchbrites on the Haus resurfacer, every shop around here does as well.  We have diamond wheels that are used to cut the ball down, I believe about 100 grit.  Then we follow that with maroon, then green and finally white scotchbrites.  I am curious to see what the rest of you or your proshops use.

If you start at 100 grit, how many times can you do a ball?
I thought most people started a little higher, like 220 or 280 grit. I know of Haus machines; I don't use one. Just curious.

I use a cab 320 if a ball needs a major resurface and is all tracked out.  I do this by hand and it cuts really fast.  Otherwise it's 400 or 600 and then its the chemical stuff to finish on the spinner.

Charlest-We only use the diamond wheels on stuff that is in extremely bad shape.  The length of time varies depending on the severity of the coverstock.  I usually go no more than three to five minutes.

When I use the scotchbrites it is for 15 minutes minimum.

When I do it at home, I start with 220 sandpaper, 320, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1500.  It takes time but everything turns out well.

I use an old, single speed spinner and the following grits:

150
220
320
400
600
1000
1500

For polish, I use Storm Stage 2, Stage 3, and Ultimate Black Magic Plus.
