How I Got the Storm Steps to Work Perfectly
« on: January 25, 2010, 03:56:25 AM »
So recently, I borrowed a spinner from my friend to tinker around with.  I got the Storm Steps 1 and 2 in a mission to make my shiny Storm balls as close to OOB as possible.

My first attempt was horrible.  Over what the finish was, I did a 500 Abralon Pad, then Step 1, and step 2.  I did each of these for way too long, on two sides of the ball.  The ball came out only slightly shiny, and the reaction wasn't bad, but not OOB.  The backend was good, just not what OOB was for me.

My second attempt was (seems) perfect.  I did a 360 Abralon Pad, then Step 1, then Step 2.  I did each of these for 10 seconds, on four sides of the ball. (For reference: side one had the finger holes facing me , side two had the finger holes facing the spinner cup, side three had the finger holes facing 3:00, side four had the finger holes facing 9:00.  Each side had the thumb hole closest to me.)

When I was done, I took a slightly damp paper towel, and rinsed off what was there.  NOTE: For Step 1 and Step 2, I took a damp terry cloth, and used a fairly liberal amount of compound for each side of the ball.

After that, I took my hands, and put pressure on the ball to create heat.  I did this with my hands on all 4 sides for 10 seconds.  After that, I just wiped the ball down with a dry towel.

The ball came out VERY tacky, with a great shine.  The reaction of the ball (same ball as my first attempt, a Gravity Shift) was EXACTLY how it was on day one.  Very predictable, with a great backend movement.

So I did another ball today this way (a Pyro), and the ball is shiny, and very tacky.  The appearance is identical to the Gravity Shift.  I throw the ball in league tomorrow, so hopefully the reaction is what I'm looking for.

I figured I should post this in case people are looking to get their Storm balls back to OOB.  I know some people echoed my concerns that it was impossible.  It took some trial and error, but I finally got what I consider the closest to OOB there could be, without getting a new ball.  Hopefully this helps!

So you held your bare hands on the ball for 10 seconds while it was spinning on all four sides? I am confused as to what this would do other than bring a litle surface oil out. You really need a cleaner that would break down that oil to do anything noticable.

I got close to the 1500 grit polished using 360 abralon in a storm factory surface machine then on a spinner used step 2 using a damp rag and no more polish than the size of a nickel(roughly) and light pressure. Comes out fairly close.

Holding your hands on the cover will create friction and kinda buff the polish. I do this when shining all the time but I use a bath towel folded in half and lean on it with both hands. A little hard on the spinner (it whines a little) but just vary the pressure a bit and it's ok.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm doing.  I tried it with a terry cloth and I couldn't create the heat I wanted.  So I just used my hands and it worked like a charm for me.  My spinner kind of slows down a bit too b/c of the pressure.
