Just tried HOOK AGAIN... I can't believe it works!
« on: April 30, 2004, 05:22:13 AM »
Just bought the home version of the Hook Again and this stuff works! How in the world does it work? Woowzers...

My test ball was my old Mass Chaos. Everybody knows about the "TEC Death" and this ball died of it! When I got it, it had more backend than any other PARTICLE I've ever thrown and after 150+ games the thing went straight and that's no lie! I never had the ball resurfaced during that 150 game life span, until I did it with the actual Hook Again process.

Here's what I did:

1.) Sanded ball lightly to 400 grit just to take the polish off befor I put it in.

2.) Put in the HOOK AGAIN for 30 hours (instead of 24 like Ebonite says).

3.) Took ball out and sanded it down with 320 to remove most of teh track, then 600, then 800.

4.) I polished the ball with Ebonite's own "PARTICLE Polish" on 4 sides of the ball - this "polishing" step is VER Important because it removes the broken particles from the ball like Ebonite says (they told me that their own "PARTICLE Polish" was the best for removing the broken particle's from a ball than other polishes on the market).

5.) I then used some a different brand of polish to get it to my desired finish which was about 2500+.

Went to the lanes and this ball is every bit as strong as when it was new! I can't believe how this stuff works!

Ebonite claims that "plasticizers" are what makes a ball loose it's backend hook.. and NOT oil build-up.

So now I'm starting to agree!

I wonder how this stuff works? Part of me thinks it was actually the Hook Again, and part of me thinks it may have been the Resurfacing that I did afterward. I wish I had have thrown the ball "AFTER" I took it out of the Hook Again and "BEFORE" I Resurfaced the ball just to see... will have to do that with another ball I guess.

Thoughts???

And you've also got to remember that the MASS CHAOS is a Columbia TEC Coverstock, too! Which is a silica based particle cover, and basically it's got little GLASS bubbles in it and once they break, then that's it! Some say that it's impossible to bring that kind of coverstock back to life!

But for some reason this ball is as STRONG as it ever was!

I'm amazed!!!

Yeah, I used the hook-again on an older ball too. Just as BrianN said, it restored it, but not for very long. It lasted maybe another 40-50 games.

Yes but isn't 40 to 50 games better then 0?

While I don't argue with anything else you said, do you think Ebonite would recommend another brand of polish???

Bob,

That may be true... I thought of that also.

But on Ebonite's website, they say this about the Particle Polish:

"Through contact with the lane surface, the particles will fracture and be imbedded into the ball's surface, causing more lane contact with the particles. This will lead to an earlier breakpoint and a loss of backend reaction. Not being able to remove the particle fragments is the culprit for loss of ball reaction. Powerhouse "Particle Polish" has micro-fine cutting agents suspended within the polish that are designed to "scrub" those particle fragments out of the ball's surface, exposing the reactive resin surface to the lane."
