Which Polishes and Cleaners
« on: August 22, 2003, 09:27:26 AM »
I have a new Vertex Spinner on the way and it is scheduled to arrive around Wed. of next week. I need help/advice on which Polishes, Cleaners, etc. I should get to start with. I would appreciate your suggestions. Let me state that I don't have a "lot of hand" and probably have around 14-15-16 mph speed. I cannot comfortably play much deeper than the third arrow. I've tried Black Magic using the Pro Shop Spinner and my ball skated thru the break point and wouldn't hook. I have some old "Reaction Plus" that I have the Pro Shop use and it does a pretty fair job over all. The more coats put on, the shiner it gets. It also seems to clean the ball. I don't know if the currect Track Reaction Plus is the same thing or not as the old Polish I have isn't Track.

To sum it up, I need help in selecting the right Polishes, Cleaners, and what ever else I need to start out, based on the information I have given you about my style. All responses appreciated. Thanks guys.

Brick,

I'm still a big fan of Black Magic, I determine length by the grit of sand paper I put underneath.

I have seen Track's reaction Plus used very happily by many users.

Brick,

Why did you put Black Magic on this ball and how much?
BM is no different from any other polish in that you should only put on as little as you think you need. Spinners allow you to put significantly more shine on a ball much quicker than by hand. You have to be very judicious in your application.

Why not just pick a selection of small containers, 4-8 oz for most brands and try them on your balls, AS YOU NEED POLISH? Check the descriptions on these websites. It's almost hard to recommend one brand over any other. People tend to stick with one brand, but I have had luck with Storm, Ebonite, Track, Neo-Tac, Ultimate, Degree, and 3M.

Bowlers Paradise has a very nice selection of almost every brand:

Bowling Index also does:

Wild Octopus also does:

I think you will find that you won't need to polish your stuff that often when you are using your spinner. The spinner cleans the ball much better than by hand. Polishes last me a LONG LONG time.

I would start of with a small bottle of clean and dull, and The track version of what you now have that we talked about.

I think with the 4 balls you mainly use, this will get you by.

Just don't go crazy polishing your balls on your new spinner. I did this and it had a negative effect. I use it to clean them about once a week. and just rub them down with a towel dampened with my cleaning solution. (my own magic blend of cleaners I might add) the rest of the time

When it comes time for sanding or polishing you are gonna love your new spinner.

Like I said, Let me know if you want me to come and help you get started.

Later,
Ty

Of course not. It's up to you how much fun you having playing with your new toy. Re-surface a couple of old useless balls and see what happens.

Let me suggest a few other things besides polishes.
* Ultimate's Quick Kut & Polish - "one-step product equal to 500 grit sandpaper. Quik Cut will remove sanding lines from 220 grit on resin balls and take them to a 500 grit surface and polish at the same time."

* Ebonite's Liquid Sandpapers
* * POWERHOUSE Sand Blaster - "Use on particle and Reactive Resin bowling balls, Sands to 400-grit finish,  Removes lane oil and dirt."
* * POWERHOUSE Matte Finish - similar to Sand Blaster, but sands to 1200-grit finish.

* Track's Clean-n-Dull - I find this one of the best deep cleaners for once a month oil removal and total cleaning of a ball. "restores dullness and tackinessin urethane and reactive resin balls. Draws out oil and removes dirt, grime and belt burns."

* Track's Clean-n-Sheen - Similar to Quick-Kut & Polish, except it takes 320 grit sanding lines to 1000 grit and leaves a light polish.

* Track's Clean-n-Smooth - takes a ball to 1500 grit and leaves it dull.

Plus 40, thanks a bunch for the sandpaper and scotchbrite pad information. This information plus what Charlest and Ty have given me will go a long ways in helping me learn with my new spinner.
