What is the BEST cleaner that WON'T take the polish off?
« on: April 01, 2004, 01:27:28 PM »
I like to keep my Medium to Medium/Heavy PARTICLE stuff highly polished to around 2500-3500, and after every set I use Track's Clean N' Dull, and this stuff really takes off the polish! It's gotten to the point where I'm having to re-polish my stuff after every 2 sets (6-7 games)... and that can't be good for my Particle balls? Can it??? And plus I'm having to buy Polish every other day or 2 it seems!

It was recommended that the Clean N' Dull should be used just ever once and a while for a deep clean... but I don't know why that was mentioned? Is it harmful to use it as often as I do after every single set?

But regardless, it takes the polish off to quickly... so what kinds of cleaner is out there that I can use after every set that won't take the polish off, BUT will still deep clean like Clean N' Dull does?

Anybody know anything about the following and if they clean really good without removing the shine of a ball:

1.) Track's "Reaction Plus" Cleaner
2.) Ebonite's Powerhouse "Energizer" Cleaner
3.) Storm's "Mega Bite" Particle Cleaner

Anybody use these that can offer some good advice?

Thanks!

The only one that I can recommend from personal use is Neo ac Re-New It. It has pulled out oil/dirt that other cleaners didn't get, and has not hurt the polish on my Colossus, or dulled my Pearl's.

Ric--
I haven't tried any of the three you mentioned, so I'll be interested in any comments people have about them as well.

The best I can think of is Renew-It.  It takes a little more work to get a good cleaning out of Renew-It than it does with Hook-It, but Renew-It keeps the shine on a surface.  Repeated uses of Renew-It will actually get you to about a 2500 surface eventually, even without the use of other polishes.  It just takes longer.  If you have a ball with a 2500 surface, it should look about the same after using Renew-It on it.  If the ball has a 3500 surface, Renew-It may dull it a bit, I'm not sure.  I have a ball with a 3500 surface, and one with a 5000 surface, but they see little use, so I haven't got the extensive experience fiddling around with those surfaces like I do with stuff in the 800-2500 range.

da Shiv,

How do u use your renew it?  I do what the bottle tells me to do by taking a paper towel and rubbing it on, and use a rag to buff it clean.  Is this what u do?  It just seems to take too long for me.

Dabalos--
That's what I do.  I use a spinner now, since I have one.  Before I bought the spinner, I did it by hand.  Renew-It dries and gets tacky really fast and on the spinner sometimes the ball grabs the paper towel out of my hand if I don't hold the paper towel pressed firmly to my hand with a finger of the other hand.  Renew-It is a bit tedious as a cleaner, mostly because it does dry so fast.  I like the results though, so I use it anyway.

Something that I like to do that works really well for me is to make a 50-50 mixture of Renew-It and Hook-It.  That makes it not only work better as a cleaner, but keeps it from drying as fast because Hook-It is slow drying.  I use that when I want not only cleaning, but a bit of a shine as well.  If I don't want the shine, I just use Hook-It, because I think Hook-It cleans better--or at least faster--than Renew-It.

I think you are a little confused about the meaning of "polish".  When you polish a ball, you are smoothing the surface with whatever grit is contained in the polish itself.  There is nothing left behind to "take off".  Using clean and DULL is dulling the surface as it's supposed to.  It is designed for use on balls with a dull surface to maintain that dull surface.

Any cleaner that does not contain abrasives will not alter your polished surface.

I use Neo Tac's "Liquid Nitro" every 3 games. It is a spray-on ball cleaner and is the best I have found. It doesn't effect the polish. If you do this, depending how much oil you bowl in, on medium oil conditions your balls won't need a deep cleaning more than once a month at the most and probably not even that much. When your balls do need a deep cleaning, use the Neo Tac products. Neo Tac "Hook-It" will deep clean any ball and does not change the surface. For polished balls, Neo Tac says to first use their  Renew-It, then follow that up with Hook-It....A word of caution, and that is keep the Renew-It and Hook-It off finger grips and vynal thumb inserts/slugs as it will eat them up. Do not get on anything that is/contains plastic.

From personal experience:

Ebonite energizer cleaner doesn't take off the polish.  For deeprer cleansing, use the Renew-it for polished balls.

hope this helped

Ishmael,

So are you saying that Track's Clean N' Dull actually does contain some abrasives... and that is what is making my polished balls become dull when I use the Clean N' Dull?

And it seems like 2 of you are saying that the "Ebonite Energizer Cleaner" DOES NOT dull the ball at all... so does that mean that this cleaner DOES NOT contain any abrasives?

I have been using Clean n Dull for awhile now and it has never dulled a polished surface for me. It has not dulled a polished particle or reactive. The only cleaner that I have used that seems to dull the surface of a polished ball is Hook-it

Excaliber,

When I say that it dulls the polished cover, I don't mean that it literally dulls and takes off all of the polish and makes the ball... I just mean that it takes off a little each time, little by little, allowing the ball to get duler and duller. It's only a slight bit, but it is noticable.
