1-2 Pin to PAP
« on: March 03, 2009, 11:53:28 AM »
Curious... for anyone that has done the 1-2 pin to Pap drillings to use on dry lane conditions... how did the ball carry on the correct condition? I want to try it.. but I'm concerned about the carry.

i think its more on the house... if it carrys well(from all angels/bowlers)    i have 2 drilled up that way.. they work better at the "harder" house in my town..   mostly because it favors down and in bowlers and leftys!!!   HAHAHA

I've been practicing with a pin on PAP (4 X 0) ball recently at a house with an extreme wet / dry situation. The carry seems to be better that my other layouts.

I think if you've got plenty of ballspeed/loft to get the ball past the heads with enough energy then it could work very well on dry lanes. I tend to use mine on extreme wet/dry lanes to calm down overreaction or on wet and short patterns like the Cheetah.

I personally have to start lofting the ball after a while because it just runs out of energy to early and leaves weak 10s all over the place if the lanes get too dry up front.

I have a Power Groove Proactive Black Sparkle in my rack that's waiting to be drilled with a 2"-to-PAP setup, had no time for the pro shop yet.
With a polished surface I expect this thing to be a good special purpose piece for slick lane surfaces and carrydown - but since it is a rather rolly setup (hence the choice of a high RG core), I do not expect the ball (or sucha setup in general) to be a good choice on dry lanes. Conquering wet/dry conditions with a stable reaction and predictable roll is its main purpose. It lacks length you need for dry /high friction lanes.

I'd rather increase the pin to PAP distance to at least 5", depending on your game, and put the pin under the fingers top avoid a flippy reaction. Pin-in balls with a low TW are a good basis, an entry level ball is recommended if you want to conquer dry to light conditions, as well as a shiny surface for added length.

Good luck, though, tough job to find a dry lane solution that actually works!
