What is the earliest rolling layout??
« on: March 07, 2004, 08:30:23 AM »
In YOUR opinion what is the earliest rolling layout that still maintains good flare.  I don't want pin axis b/c I want to utilize the core and cover, I am paying for them by god I want to use them.

What would a pin in palm, cg kicked out do??  I remember seeing this layout before and it was supposed to be the best thing for heavy oil.  My heavy oiler is an HPH with the cg kicked out and pin under ring finger.  I want to purchase a new oiler this summer and really want the thing to flare and ROLLLLLLLLLL.

Suggestions please...

Thumb/rev leverage if I'm not mistaken

Pin on pap!  Pin axis....whatever you want to call it.......that is the earliest "rolling" layout...the core is on it's side......yes ??

Argroves is looking for a ball/drilling for oil here guys. A pin axis drilling WILL NOT WORK ON  HEAVY OIL..!!  A 3 3/8 x 0 might not be too bad as well as a 4 x 2. =:^D

i agree also-guilty as charged

pin axis is earliest rolling but not for what you want

4 x 2 is my altime favorite

gets rolling well and tames over under also

If you want roll, then out the pin closer to your PAP.  Instead of the recommended 4" x 2", I suggest a 2 3/4" x 2".

The flare potential is roughly the same (4" - 3 3/8" = 3 3/8" - 2 3/4"), but you are using the lower RG.

I have balls with both of these drills.  For me, the 4" x 2" generally has good length with a stable breakpoint, but on heavy & long it can still flip hard if the backends are strong or stake on me if the backends are wet.  The 2 3/4" x 2" generally has a steady movement.  On the heavy & long, it doesn't overreact on dry or stake on carrydown, but when the heads go I put the ball back in the bag.

Thanks guys.  I appreciate the recommendations.  I used to have a Brimestone Monster drilled 2 x 2.  It was probably better than my HPH but I gave it to my grandfather b/c he needed a heavy oil ball.
