Hi all!

I have a question about my dad's game. He's been full-roller as long as I can remember. A couple of years ago he dropped to 15# because of back problems with the 16s (and shoe problems) and has been doing pretty well. His 3D-Hammer kept tracking over the fingerholes so he bought a Mutant...his $280 spare ball. He can't get this ball to do anything. Over the summer, he bought a Deuce, and it's been doing okay, but will still go straight on him. Meanwhile, both myself and my brother-in-law can get both of them to move more than our own equipment will.

He recently got Dexter SST-6's using Sole #8 and Heel #7 and his slide is much more stable, but scorers at the center we bowl at have his strike ball clocked between 16.2 and 16.9. The Deuce will move a couple of boards, but the Mutant won't budge. However, when his feet are too quick getting to the line, he drops down to 15.5 to 15.8 and both balls take off. This however screws up his timing and tends to throw his back out.

I've tried everything I can think of with him:

Holding the ball lower before he starts
smaller 1st and 2nd steps
Moving back on the approach to change the breakpoint

Nothing seems to work.

I started wondering the other day what a different drilling pattern would do. Maybe something like leverage or aggressive. I've also thought about what a 16# would do. I know he stopped using them because of his back but with the new shoes helping out a lot would that be worth looking into?

He's starting to get frustrated because we can't figure out how to get him to slow down. If he holds the ball any lower in his stance he may as well "granny" it.

before u ruin the ball by plugging and redrilling it, try sandng the ball down to like 400 grit and see what that does.....

Are the balls drilled for a full roller? Don't try to slow him down you will have his back all messed up.
