Pin to VAL 1"= ?
« on: March 16, 2008, 11:15:44 AM »
I remember reading somewhere that keeping the pin 1" from the VAL creates a specific reaction, and if someone remembers what that reaction is? My pap measurement is 6&1/4" over & 1&1/2" up. If I wanted to drill something 6" pin to pap but also keep the pin within 1" of the VAL that would put the pin 7&1/2" above the midline.I've never put a pin that high and don't know if the ball would still hook or just go straight due to the pin being too high. Anyone have any experiances with this drilling technique?

                                  Thanks,

The further the pin is from the PAP and also the closer the pin is to the VAL, will equal more length.  Closer to the VAL will also give you more skid flip.  As far as a 6" pin 1" from the VAL, I would try it on an old ball first.

Storm originated the "pin buffer" technique of laying balls out.  Go to their web site and look at their layout sheets.  --  JohnP

I've read that called the Tommy Jones drilling.  Yes, it puts the pin really high up their, which helps people with mad revs, like Tommy, get the ball down the lane and make a controllable move in the back.
