Title: Ball plug preferences

 Just wondering what everyone's preference is for ball plug. I've had my experience with the 15 minute quick plug and now want something more reliable. I'm looking for best bang for the buck. Gotta keep the price down.

Not sure of the price, but out of the brands our shop has used, HD is the best.

I started with some quick set stuff (not official "ball plug") that did fine, but not the most professional results - still, it was cheaper than the "real" quick ball plug.

I eventually end up buying this package. (http://"http://www.bowlingindex.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=BI&Category_Code=PST&Product_Code=PL-EPSKit")  It seemed like the best bang for the buck since it includes the color kit, the pumps (which are usually $20 extra), finger/thumb dams, and the cups and sticks.

I haven't had any problems with it and have been using it for a little over a year.  I haven't plugged much lately, and I'm not sure of the shelf life, but you might want to take that into consideration.

Ebonite is a good plug. I prefer TechLine HD. The temp is not so touchy. There's a few nights the heater didn't kick on as it should and the Ebonite is temp sensitive, took longer than I thought to harden. Never had a problem with the TechLine HD. Couple years ago the pilot blew out ( high winds) and it got under 55 degrees. The TechLine set as timed, worked great and no problems. It is a bit more I think than Ebonite but temp and shelf life is less important and longer shelf life, from what I've experienced.

Colors ( TechLine) mix well with both, forgot to mention.

 Well, I still have a lot of the 15 minute stuff left, but I guess it has a shelf life. When I use it now it turns to foam and when it sets up it's FULL of pinholes. Like sandpaper. So, I was looking to get something better but this year my budget is limited. I found Wizard plug that sets up in 1 hour. Anyone ever use it?

Wizard is great,as long as color match isn't important! It doesn't color well and you MUST use their color kit(it is expensive).It is the best for redoing, say, a thumb in the same place.Works out the best of any I've used.

I prefer the Techline hands down. Like stated earlier the Ebonite plug is much too sensitive to temp and stirring time for my tastes. I still keep some around for ball repairs but that's it.

Another vote for Techline although I admit to not having tried the Ebonite.

  Where is the best place to buy. I don't have a tax license so it will have to be normal channels.

I started off using the DBA 321 and it was good. I then tried the 321 Pro Plug quick set stuff and it was horrible. I switched over to TechLine HD and fell in love.

However one day I needed plug and my supplier was out of TechLine so I tried the Ebonite EverClear....wow! I thought TechLine was good to match color with bu this stuff is way better.

I think I am on gallon #20 of EverClear now....it surely gets my vote.

 Thanx, Doug. Is there something nearly as good that sets up quicker? I don't need the 15 minute stuff, but an hour or two would be great!

We use Tech-Line.  We use Ultimate Quick Plug for making thumb molds.

I find that quick plug is great for fixing a mistake or someone that isn't willing to wait.

Wizard is the best quick plug I have found.....I don't use it much but when someone needs a quickie fix then I at least have an alternative for them.

I use Ebonite's Ultra Safe and have not had one problem with it. Cuts very well with a plug cutter and drills great. Never had it chip or have been compromised by temperature.

 Found Wizard complete 2 gallon kit at Jayhawk for $133.00. Includes the pumps and a black tint. Not bad.
