Quick Question
« on: March 16, 2008, 02:06:06 PM »
Not that i would consider doing this, but im just curious if any of you know how this would change ball reaction.

If I were to drill my ball up with a left handed layout, and then throw it right handed, how would it effect reaction. Like if the pin was layed out under my middle finger rather than my index finger, or kicked out to the left instead of the right.

I would think it would cause much less hook, but its something im not sure about.

I have an old Brunsick Spahhire Zone layed out with the min in my middle finger with a high gloss polish.  With my rev rate this layout works great on light-medium oil. This layout, depending on layout and surface prep, should work well under these conditions.

The reaction would still depend on your PAP. I have a ball with the pin just left & below the middle finger with the CG just above & right of the thumb & MB below & right of thumb. That layout gives me a 6 1/4" pin to PAP & is still early rolling with a more mellow backend reaction. Different bowlers will experience different reactions depending on style, speed, revs, PAP, etc. Also coverstock & ball make-up. Much too hard to nail down what it would do for you!

I've got an Ebonite Matrix Conquest drilled with pin over middle, CG under middle and MB right under the thumb. Great piece for dry lanes or for playing off the corner. I used to have a Storm X-Factor ReLoaded with the same drill pattern. VERY mild ball.

If you have a multi-ball arsenal, I would suggest having a ball drilled this way in that arsenal somewhere, but it will be fairly condition-specific.

We have a winner!!  Could be weak, could be strong - totally depends on your PAP location, which we don't know (I checked your profile).  --  JohnP
