Title: Couple of questions
Post by: AdrianS on August 30, 2003, 07:14:48 AM
Ok, i've drilled my Elite Pearl with its 2.5x1.5 layout and because its one of those low top weight balls i love so much the statics show 1/4 oz finger and 3/4oz side, i'm still thinking of adding a balance hole to get the side weight under 1/2 oz just to be on the safe side, with the lower flare of this layout would a hole at 6 3/4 from grip center beef up the reaction a little or would a pitched hole on my PAP (5 5/8 over) have the same effect?

Second question, i'm going to try a similar pin position on my old Coral Triton with another experiment thrown in for good measure, my base grip is 4 1/2(cut of middle finger to thumb) and 4 5/8(cut of ring finger to thumb) thumb pitch is usually 3/8 reverse and 1/4 away. What i'm thinking of doing with this ball is ditching the grips and dropping the ring finger a little, plus giving myself 1/4 inch forward pitch on the fingers and getting rid of the reverse out of the thumb , the spans would be 4 11/16 from both fingers to the thumbhole(more of a relaxed grip by shortening the overall span by 1/16) I want to do this to see if it prevents me from squeezing the ball a little on the downswing so i can release the ball with a bit more of a relaxed hand, the side pitch will still let me get around the ball a little. Is this the right way to axcheive what i'm looking for or are there other pitch changes i should consider?

AdrianS -- I would have to see your hand to give you a reasonable answer to your question, since it depends greatly on the flexibility of your fingers.  If you have stiff first finger joints, the combination of 1/4 forward pitch on the fingers and reduced reverse on the thumb might "lock" you into the ball, causing sticking of the thumb and possibly even damaging your finger joints.  A good pro can analyze your hand and make meaningful suggestions. -- JohnP
