Title: Difference in Ball Motion
Post by: earlyrolling on February 16, 2018, 11:39:32 PM
My PAP is 5 inches over and 1/2 inch up.  Rev Rate = 425.  Speed = 16 mph off the hand (right-handed).

Let's pretend I have 3 identical, symmetrical bowling balls OOB.
Let's pretend I decide to place a different layout on each (see below):

Ball 1 Layout: pin placed 3/4" under bridge, CG kicked 1/2" to right
Ball 2 Layout: pin placed 3/4" under ring finger, CG stacked beneath pin
Ball 3 Layout: pin placed 3/4" under ring finger, CG kicked 1" to right + P2 hole

What would be the difference in ball motion (shape) between the 3 balls on a pattern such as High Street (https://www.tenpinbowling.ie/Kegel%20Recreation%20Series%20%20HIGH%20STREET%20%208144.pdf (https://www.tenpinbowling.ie/Kegel%20Recreation%20Series%20%20HIGH%20STREET%20%208144.pdf))?

You're overthinking. Cover and surface prep is the biggest factor. There could be small minute differences that most bowlers won't be able to tell. Also Pin to PAP

You won't see the difference between 1 and 2, and 3 will give you a slightly earlier roll with maybe a tad more flare separation.

But yeah, overthinking the layout.

More and more coming to the conclusion that unless your release is super consistent really the only thing that matters with symmetric balls is pin to pap and even then not as big a deal as most people assume.

Your rev rate is high enough you may see a couple of boards with your feet difference between 1 & 3 with 2 trying to squeeze between them.

From my experience if you want to drill 2 of the same ball to be able to change balls to change carry drill them with about 1 1/2 inch difference in pin to PAP.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.  It opened my eyes about what is/isn't important.
