Replacing fingertip inserts.
« on: April 18, 2006, 12:58:11 PM »
Im curious what tools, and methods people use when removing and replacing fingertip inserts.  I would like to move some from one ball to another without damaging them if possible.

thanks

Pro shops should have a tool that slides around the outsides and if used carefully, will break the glue and not damage the grips. Either that or carefully running an X-acto knife around the grip to break the glue.

A small flat bladed screwdriver will usually get them out without damaging them beyond future use.  Start in an area that isn't completely glued in and work it carefully around until it's loose.  --  JohnP

I do that very often. I use a 1/8" wide flat bladed screwdriver. Work into one side in very tiny section, so as not to rip too much of the insert off; the glue sticks the inserts to the side wall of the finger hole. work SLOWLY and carefully. After doing it 5 or 10 times, you'll get the knack of it and can do it more quickly but never fast. If you try to hurry, I guarantee you will rip the insert and leave huge gobs of it stuck to the sidewall. Patience! Lots of Patience.

I think there is also a substance available that dissolves either super glue or another "special" insert glue for pro shops, so that the grip can be taken out without mechanical help and danger of damage. I think I saw it on Brunswick's pro shop operator websites?

i use a special tool from tech-line( ? )that is razor sharp and you twist the handle and it cuts through the glue on the outside of the grip. the blade is so sharp it barely scrapes the insert.

GripGrabberâ„¢
Code: 789
Price: $22.95
Quantity in Basket: none

.bowlerschoice.com  They have one of these, best money you'll spend if you plan to do it yourself.

I have one that has a "T" handle, I like it better.
