About my new balls
« on: May 08, 2007, 02:02:15 PM »
Seems whenever i get a new ball i throw a game or two with the new one and then when i try going to another ball, my thumb always hangs in it. i can't get out of it clean. i had my ball drilled from an old pro bowler adam apo, my boss, and i know he's been drilling balls for a long time and i was wondering if he got the pitch in my thumb wrong? or is it just the feeling of the new thumb slug?

Even though one ball might be drilled with the same specs on the sheet like another, the thumb's bevel might differ and need adjustments. When you feel the hole's rim while holding or cling to it during release, I'd cut it slightly back with a bevel knife, a round file or a sanding pad. Try this during training, while actually playing the ball, and make minor adjustments, test them, make corrections, etc. Just avoid to cut out too much at once, or you might need a new thumb slug!

Some tape can also make a recognizable difference.
