I'm going to buy a new ball on-line, probably a Alpha Max, but maybe a VG or Anarchy, for use on longer, heavier THS patterns, with a few tourneys thrown in. What ball specs should I ask for that would be versatile enough and would let me go either pin over ring or pin under, about 4 or 4 1/2 pin to pap?

3 1/2 - 4 1/2" pin out and less than 2 1/2 oz top weight should work. You still may have to use a balance hole. -- JohnP

Depends on your span a little bit.

For pin over your fingers you would like to have a longer pin placement say 3-4.5" with any topweight, for pin down you could get away with a shorter pin ball say 1-3" with almost any top weight.
