Stretched Grip
« on: March 20, 2006, 04:27:14 AM »
I currently have what people call a stretched grip with my thumb pitched about 1/8 away from my palm.  On occasion, I'll bounce the ball or come over the top of it.  I am right-handed with a lot of revolutions and approximately 15.5-16 mph speed.  On a couple balls, I'll track extremely near the thumb, and sometimes catch it.

I was thinking of relaxing/shortening my grip.  Will that help the bouncing and topping?  What about lowering the track?

Thanks

Shep

You can't outcoach a bad span. Trust me even the pros throw a bad shot way more than 1 in 25 or 30 games (unless you're robert mushtare). It is harder to stay under the ball with a stretched span, due to wrist strain.

If it doesn't fit, it can't hit!!!

Go to your kitchen right now, and go to your cubboard. Take two soup cans, one larger and one smaller. Hold them in your hand, and then choose which is easier to keep in your hand and quickly spin out of your hand.

Shorter is easier to get out of, also easier to keep a cupped wrist.
