6" Pin to PAP
« on: January 04, 2015, 09:04:49 PM »
I have not posted here in a while.  My last post was one about my down position PAP but I am having a new problem.  I cannot get a 6" drilling to work for me when I put the pin above my middle finger.  My PAP is 5 1/2" over and 1/2" down.  I am a high rev, high track bowler.  I use a lot of 5" pin to PAP drilling which puts the pin in my ring finger.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also for more information, anything with a pin below fingers needs to be right of my ring finger or I will track over the middle finger.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to help/think about my problem.

Brandon

6" pin-pap causes very tight flare rings which could be used for a control motion off the friction
what were you trying to accomplish by using the 6" pin layout?

And surface is way important than layout
see this post http://www.ballreviews.com/drilling-layouts/expected-difference-between-these-2-layouts-t306362.0.html

If pin-in-ring is 5" pin-PAP, then pin OVER middle finger will be 6 1/2" pin-PAP.
On a symmetric core, this will provide virtually zero flare; on an asymmetric core, you will get flare, but the ball roll after the breakpoint will be very end over end (according to the Mo theory). In either case, unless you have a ton of tilt and rotation, you will be forced to play a very outside line.

So, like Milo said, what's the idea, what are you trying to do?
and why do it this way?

FWIW when I had a PAP with a down component, I got a better reaction with the pin UNDER the middle finger. It will still have a pin-PAP greater than 5", 5 3/4" roughly.

If it doesn't work don't do it?

My father has a pretty high track and is a lower-rev player.  I've been laying his stuff out for a while, and he gets MUCH better ball reactions with long pins (5.5 to 6 pin to PAP) under the middle finger (SICK reactions actually), and closer pins (2-3 inch pin to PAP) under or adjacent to the ring finger.  Both give him a lot of control, and the ball is much more active going through the pins.  Stronger pins, and higher pins, and especially stronger AND higher pins usually get him into trouble with the ball rolling out and leaving flat 10s all the live long day.

I am trying to tame my reaction.  Everything that I have tried ends up being almost a 90 degree turn.  I can manage it but I need to smooth out my reaction.  I am not looking for more mid-lane because of how I throw the ball, it will grab too early.

I am looking for a good layout where I can play a straight or slight swing shot.

Charlest, with the pin below the fingers, you did not have any trouble tracking over the finger?  I tried a modified Rico (raised the pin up an inch) but ran into the problem of clipping my middle finger.  Any advise of what worked for you would be appreciated.

Closer to the pap creates a slower smoother response and one close to the track creates a sharper faster response...so try a pin closer to your pap to smooth out your reaction and place a hole the same distance

Another way to smooth out a reaction is try a deep hole on your PAP.  I've seen higher rev guys use this to slow down the response to friction.

i went through this type of ball reaction for several years, tried many differnt balls/layouts.
for ME, i took some lessons and realized that i was muscling the swing and helping it way to much.
Once i was able to fix these issues, i can finally get the ball through the heads and actually drill some stronger pieces than i never, ever had in my bag before.
i couldn't drill away the problems I was having

Dave.

I thank you for your input but I have been working with Jackie Mitskavich (Prior female tour bowler) and she is not noticing me muscling the ball.  I have a pretty high back swing as it is.  I will ask her to look at my mechanics again to see if this could be an issue.

Thank you everyone for your input.  I will be pulling out some older equipment and trying the closer pin and the additional (massive) balance hole idea.
