« on: September 06, 2007, 04:09:42 AM »
i would like to know about fitting of vacu inserts on the fingers. how tight or snug do they have to fit? or does the fitting have to be the same as regular inserts? any info appreciated.

My understanding is that you can use the next size smaller insert.  Since the hole is bigger than the insert, there's room for it to stretch around your fingers.

i haven't used finger inserts for about 8 years. my driller redrilled two old balls of mine to try out the vacu inserts. the first ball i got drilled was on tuesday and i tried it out right away. the fitting of the first ball was a bit tight. with a light squeeze i got my fingers in. the second ball i got drilled yesterday and couldn't try it out yet because i had no time. on both days he did a little fitting to my fingers and i really didn't notice a difference. the feeling of the second ball is a bit looser than the first ball. should i go with fitting of ball one or ball two?

I currently use vacu inserts. I use the TurboQuad grips but it should be the same with the Vise aswell.

The grips in the vacudrilled balls are 1/32 smaller than what I would use in regular drilled balls.

The grips should feel snug but not be too tight. Vacu Grips tend to wear at a faster rate than in regular drill.

Hope this helps.

I use Vacu Grips.  Their grips are numbered and have the fractions.  The numbers have 1/2 sizes.  Generally go down 1 1/2 sizes from what you used before.  I like them pretty tight.  Seems it only takes about 15 games and they loosen up.  I think Vise recommends going down 2 whole sizes (number wise).

I use 1 1/2 sizes down and glue the grip all the way around the bottom of the grip before sliding it down in the hole.  This creates a "VACuum" when you mash your fingers into the grips, the air has nowhere to go.

Also, another tip, I would be careful on this one, but I use an Xacto knife and cut the grips off flush with the ball.  I leave this edge sharp most all of the time, as it creates more vacuum to me.

thanks for the info mike. i bowled about 12 games with vise vacu inserts now and i'm liking them more and more now. i chose not to go very tight with the sizes because of swelling. my fingers tend to swell pretty fast and i used to have to take tape out of my finger holes when i didn't use inserts back then. it always went back and forth. tape in, tape out. now i don't need to worry anymore thanks again for helping out.
