Axis Tilt
« on: March 07, 2005, 06:34:57 AM »
I have a question concerning axis tilt.  A buddy of mine was having trouble with carry and was experiencing some wrist pain.  It just so happened that the proshop that he uses had Mo Pinel coming.  My buddy made an appointment with Mo and saw him about a month ago.  Mo watched him throw 4 balls (3 corners and a strike) and proceeded to tell him that his drilling was way off based on his axis tilt.  He bought one of Mo's balls and also had another plugged and redrilled per Mo's instructions.  Now my buddy carries everything and his wrist pain is gone.  I do know that he shortened the span a little.

I have trouble with carry as well.  Maybe my drilling is off.  I will be making an appointment with Mo the next time he comes around.

How can I see if my drilling is off or is that only for the trained professional?

Thanks

Shep

Mo shortened my span a bit and did some changes in my pitches.  I ended up splitting the difference and it has worked well for me.

What I did was: I found the point in between my original specs and the ones Mo had suggested and tweaked those until I felt I had reached the best feel for myself.  I guess you need to have somebody in the shop willing to do some changes for you in a timely manner and without complaining about all the tweaking.  It may take using an old ball, some quick plug, and quite a few games, but you WILL find that happy medium.  I drill so it was easy and convenient for me to make all the changes... you'll have to be really nice to your driller!

I'm a high tracker with little axis tilt(a lot of axis rotation).

Mo measured me at like 10 or 11 degrees axis tilt.

He said I was burning a lot of energy in the heads and midlanes.

He wanter to lower my track slightly(increasing axis tilt to an ideal of about 17 degrees for me) he felt.

If I remember right the change more middle finger forward.  Less forward or even slightly reverse on the ring!

To raise track and decrease axis tilt the opposite.  Weaker middle finger and stronger ring pitch!

It did that but I didn't stick with it!  I like leaving all those ringing 7s to work on my magnificent spare game I guess!
