Can you set the pitches up to get forward roll and less side roll?

Yes, by moving the lateral pitches, you can adjust the way the ball sits in your hand to promote forward roll.

Righty,

I've tried it....it did change my roll, but I don't really like my scoring or feel of it.  Rolled pitches all left for this lefty.

Correct?

Rolling the pitches is a commitment because it isnt a natural feel. It changes the way the ball feels in your hand and if you do not throw the ball the same as normal fit, you wont see the difference in results. There are all different ways to manipulate axis rotation and tilt to your advantage.

Im not in front of my information at the moment but I believe you are correct lefty in rolling the pitches left for a lefty, as it promotes forward roll. The hand at finishing position would be behind the ball more and the weight would be on the middle finger.

You can get more forward roll with just your release. If you "force" it by changing the pitch, then you have limited the usefulness of that ball.

To get more forward roll, you want to feel the weight of the ball more toward the outside (pinky finger side) of your hand. If you want side roll, position your hand where you feel the weight more toward the inside(index finger)  of the hand. These simple changes are effective with a little practice.

The best advice is to practice, and you don't have to go to the lanes to do it, do it at home, you want the feeling of staying behind the ball longer...one thing to be aware of and this is one of the things I am still working on as i try to get more behind it, is to increase your tilt or be able to increase your tilt. Forward roll with no tilt is not going to be helpful not matter what.
