drill into pin
« on: February 17, 2009, 09:34:06 AM »
anybody have experience with PARTIALLY drilling into a pin on newer storm stuff? wondering if i should expect any cracking issues or if the ball will be more susceptible to problems. pin is right in and above the bridge, finger holes partially take out part of the pin.

The pin should be 1/2" - 3/4" from the nearest hole. Most manufacturers insist that the warranty is void unless it's a full 1" from the nearest hole.

If you're going to drill it, put it in the middle of one of the finger holes, as a safety precaution.

Many manufacturers' balls could be ok if the pin is partially drilled, but it could crack. Brunswick-made balls, the pin is only a marker in the outer cover. Brunswick STRONGLY recommend a 1" distance or drill the entire pin out.

Thanks charles. the ball has already been drilled, works great with the layout but i was skeptical as to whether or not storm would cover any cracking issues. my driller is competent and i'd be surprised if he didn't check with storm. my impression with drilling out pins is that it should be all or nothing and wanted to know if anyone out there knew something i didn't.

If (when?) there is a cracking problem associated with the pin being partially drilled out, I would be very surprised if Storm will honor the warranty.  --  JohnP
