Changing thumb shape with hand position
« on: November 16, 2008, 06:47:12 AM »
I use a variety of different hand positions.  I've had trouble clearing the thumb when using a cupped wrist and fingers at 9 o'clock (right-handed) using a ball with a round hole.  Conversely, I've had trouble dropping balls with oval holes (that work well with a stronger release) when playing straighter.

Does anyone drill different thumbs on different balls that are likely to be used with different releases?  Changes in oval angle/pitch/bevel?

Thanks for any insight.

No...I have a 70* oval that works all of the time because it is how my hand sits in the ball.  The oval angle doesn't create a release or a ball roll, it helps you clear the edge so you don't tear your thumb up.

If you're dropping ovals, they aren't fit right.

Thanks guys, tape has been my solution when drastically changing releases and staying with the same ball.
I thought I read somewhere that span can change a little with different wrist positions, so I was just curious if anyone adjusted drillings to compensate.
