Need a new ball - rethinking type and layout
« on: October 20, 2020, 11:09:11 AM »
Ok... I'm headed back to league tonight. Let's try thinking about a new ball this way...

Low rev lefty (225)
Senior
Speed off hand = 15.5
high tilt
High rotation
pap 4.5 x 1

What would you suggest for ball type and layout? Brand recommendations are allowed. I'm mostly a Storm guy, but last new ball before pandemic was a Vortex V2. I should add one more thing. In this particular house (before pandemic) I've seen high rev leftys have a shot, but my Sure Lock and Phase 2 were not moving at my rev rate. The Vortex moves a bit, but can't create angle....

what were the sure lock and phase 2 doing?  was it too much volume that kept them doing what you want?  too dry and burning energy?

Actually, the phase 2 has about 300 games on it and the Surelock has probably 200. Both of them have weight holes and I just don’t think they would be worth plugging to Bring back this year because they are already not quite doing enough even with a weight hole. They are both find out another house where the volume is medium, but this is a heavy oil shot. My vortex works for a game here, but then gets pretty weak also

I am bowling on a 43 foot sport pattern with some heavier oil currently.  so far my best looks have been my Axiom and Nuclear Cell.

the Axiom is not giving me a lot of angle honestly it is playing closer to a IQ tour in terms of shape.  it is still more backend down lane, but sharp angle it is not.

the nuclear cell I have left at the out of box shine for now; and when it hits the break point, it goes.  I drilled it so that it wasn't so "hockey stick" motion.   but it still glides down lane and turns hard; its just a bit sooner.  since you are struggling with sanded (all be it, older and well used) stuff, perhaps a nuclear cell at 2000 or 3000 sanded would work.

the new physix is interesting, but it is still a few weeks from release.  very interested in how that cover and core match up.

if you need something closer to the sure lock in terms of "strength" the Roto UFO would be the ball that is already out from storm/roto to look at.

had a guy pushing 80 in my sport league last year, and that UFO made him look good.
