Need to experiment
« on: September 14, 2003, 04:56:36 AM »
I am looking to try something new in a drill pattern.  I am going to work on playing an inside line between 4th and 5th arrow.  Light short oil and carry down on the backends.

I am looking for a drill that will go fairly straight through the heads and then roll heavy in an arc (no snap).

I have plenty of revs and good speed.  Axis rotation is around 45-60 degrees and very little tilt.

Planning on using a low rg medium flaring ball.  Most likely polished pearl reactive.

What are your thoughts

Doc, I would place the pin 6-6 1/4" from your PAP and kick the CG out. This will give you what you're looking for. =:^D

T-GOD - Thanks for the response.

How far out should I kick the cg?

Should I use a weight hole and where sould it be?

By the way the ball I am using has a 2 inch pin

T-God--I'd also like to know more about this type of drilling.  What should we look for as far as pin placement and top weight?  My PAP is 4 7/8's over 1/2" up and a low tracker.

Thanks,
Scott

Personally, I think longer pins are better because the pin should be over the fingers. If not, it'll have more of a tendency to clip a finger. But, because you're cutting out the flare, you might be OK.

I would kick out the CG as much as possible. The more you kick it, the more the backend though. The weight hole can be anywhere, but I would put it on your axis. This will give you more of an arc.

Be careful with this drilling though. If you hit a strip of oil, the ball may not hook at all on the back.

The more you stay behind the ball with this drilling, the less it will hook and/or more it will have a tendency to roll out. The more you turn the ball, the quicker and more it will hook. =:^D

Thanks for the replys.

Plus40 - I only have a 2" pin out ball so going above the fingers is not really an option.  I do not not have to worry about the flare though.

BH - I have a silver streak pearl drilled 1:30 and a silver streak drilled 1:30 and another silver streak drilled 10:30.  I am going to punch up a V2 pearl like T-GOD said but I am going to put the pin under the middle finger and kick the cg out right and put a weight hole on the axis.

I have a savage pearl drilled almost the same but with the weight hole in the thumb positive quadrant and has rolled well.  But it is a heavier weight ball and I am dropping weight.
