Title: Outside grip diameter
Post by: lefty50 on February 25, 2020, 08:45:59 PM
Are the outside grip diameters identical for both turbo and Vise? I’ve been told they are slightly different but I have a pinched grip in a new ball and now I’m not sure. Does anyone know the answer?

As far as I know there are two sizes that should be the same across brands 31/32 and 7/8.  They are poured into molds if I'm not mistaken.

Sometimes one hole gets sanded more than the other so the insert goes in without resistance or "pinching".   Just remove the insert and sand the hole slightly then put back in.  Remember that we're also drilling into various densities, and the bit can have variations if the driller tries to hurry, or bits get dull.

Agreed.  As someone who has drilled my own stuff; I can recall many times after drilling a hole and inserting the finger grip I thought to myself it felt pretty tight.  I would even take a second ball and put them side by side and compare them just to make sure.  A pro shop operator can fix that issue in 30 seconds.

I have also heard that since those bits are used the most, there may be some wear on the bit making the bit just a fraction smaller than new.  This will result in a smaller hole for the insert causing the fit to be snug.

If a shop gets a new bit or if there is a difference between two shops bits you could see a difference in fits.

Insert colors expand and contract differently, too.
