5-1/2" pin?

Well I've always heard that pin distances like this (5-1/2" pin out ball) had some really interesting options for drillings.  Well the other day I got a Tour Power in with such a pin distance and I'm trying to figure out how to drill and any pro's / con's of different drill patterns.  I was originally going to just put the pin in a typical position for me, double drill the thumb, go shallow on the fingers and maybe put a weight hole down by the thumb.  However, the more I thought about things, the more I thought that this idea was a waste of a good pin.  Another thought was to just put the CG on my mid & gripline, stack the pin up high and polish the ball for a drier conditions.  Since I haven't laid this ball out yet I'm worried that the later idea would put the pin really close to the point where the centerline and the VAL line converge.  

Basically I'm not sure what to do with this ball...any ideas???

well, since the tour power is not a flare monster (I think it barely has a differential) you don;t have to worry much about a lot of factors. Probably pin about (and possibly to the PAP side of the ring finger if you're a high tracker) and put the CG in the thumb positive quadrant. Put the weight hole in line from grip center to CG to either PAP distance or 6 3/4" for a little extra ball reaction. Slight polish might be needed, depending on what lane conditions you use it - I'd suggest medium to medium light oil, and depending on your delivery/release and speed. Should still be a fairly even ball.

I had a Reaction Rev with the same placement.  I put the pin high over the middle finger with the C.G. swung out on the PAP and a weighthole through the C.G taking out 1.8 oz of sideweight.  It made the ball very versatile with a consistant arcing reaction.  Plays great on longer oil and extreme wet drys.  Don't expect any flip out of this setup, just pure reaction.

He this ball hooking more than his Eliminator and Inferno with the same drilling.


Could it have had more to do with the oil pattern and amount rather than the drilling? After all, these 3 balls are for completely different lane conditions.

Goof, your first drilling suggestion will be a very strong layout. If you're looking for a weaker drilling, for drier lanes, try putting the pin over your fingers, and the CG on your axis, extra hole on your axis. This will give you a smooth reaction for drier lanes. =:^D
