Newish tape product that impressed me!
« on: November 23, 2005, 05:32:15 PM »
Well we are looking for a better way to get a great fit.

A few different things I've seen and tried most with good effect...
Thumb straight, Magic Carpet, and thumbbillow.

Now there is something different out there that I've just starting messing with and really liked and had a wonderful game with the other day.  Not super score but more how beautiful a release I got on every ball.

From Vise...and I understand these have NOT taken off in sales yet at all.
A set of front and back tapes...each one with more gripping power.
About 5 for the front...and 2 for the back.

I got most of them from Buddies...pack has 4 and each pack has 4 of the respective tape in them.

I have not been that fired up about the front tapes but the tackier rear tape insert is intriguing.

Sort of a smooth almost rubber to leather surface.  When put in back...it seems to allow you to use the thumbhole looser than usual...I used it with normal moderate snugness in hole...and wasn't going so good.  Took two pieces of tape out of front and all of a sudden the ball was off level and like butter with really strong revs for me and not a sound on the lane.

Here is a picture of the product and I'll tell you.  I showed to teammates and they were so impressed with the roll I had that they all ordered up a test pack for my reorder coming soon!

http://www.buddiesproshop.com/product/2239/Vise+Grip+Thumb+Hole+Tape+TA%2D1D.htm
These are listed at buddies/ Accessories/ Vise

I'm real sorry...got there and there is nO picture!  Vise sent me a sample board of all styles.  Note the backs start with a TA-1X the fronts start with a TA-2X.

Oh here...from Vise
http://www.viseinserts.com/ta_tape.htm

TA-1d...my stuff described as foam urethane!

I can't find this stuff anywhere but Buddies...no proshops...nothin!  But good from a first try!

In comparison to competition.
1. Thumbbillow....too slippery for me!
2. Regular white tape..similar tackiness to slightly less but no rubbing due to smooth texture.
3. Magic Carpet...similar idea..  Ron's Magic Carpet can cover more shrinkage and swelling however.  Magic carpet does a little more rubbing at first but seems to smooth out.  It seems to me with Magic carpet that I need to work out the hole bigger to use.  This takes up less size of hole.

REgards,

Luckylefty
PS a strange thing.  It seemed to really add the most value into my oval holes which I was getting ready to stop using and was switching to round!  I do have an oval shaped thumb but had added tape recently to my slightly over size round holes to make them oval.

In the picture, are you referring to the yellow, white, red and green things? How wide are they, and how long?

LL-Looks interesting.  What are you using and how do they compare to Magic Carpets?

Exactly what I mentioned...the TA-1D.

They are as above a foam urethane (almost like leather) that is thicker than one piece of tape and thinner than a Magic Carpet.  About 3/4 of an inch wide.

Sortof has a smooth tackiness that lets one decide when to let go!

Loved it!

I just want to report marvelous results with me for this product.

I don't think it is very popular but I LOVE IT.

REcently went to Florida and went on a Scroggigs tear where I couldn't shoot below 200!  Conditions there suit my game....I learned to bowl on these wetter blended shots.

Came back to WET DRY city and had my highest game in my tough center and a bunch of 200s in my last game of league using it and my first night back.

Having the reaction of the TA from Morich is helping but I'm also throwin my other stuff with it(Icon2 in Florida) and tearing it up with this product.

Holds almost like white tape but gives me NO rub!  I must leave front of thumb looser than usual to get out and then I just let go.  More speed....less drops...more revs and no redness in back....

In fact my little know is disappearing fast!!!

I'm going to order a boat load and my teammates are so excited they are wanting me to get some too!

REgards,

Luckylefty
PS as from above this product is really making oval thumbholes feel good on my hand!  I have an oval thumb but have always hated them and the way I threw them!!

I'm ordering some also LL.  Going thru the re-fitting process now.  Going to try Vice insert tape instead of MC and see what I think. Thanks for the input.

I like the Turbo thumb tapes. They go on your thumb, and come in a variety of thickness and textures. I like that you put them on your thumb and not in your thumb hole. There are some tape products out there that will leave a nasty residue if you remove a piece of tape, and that is a royal PITA.
