What drilling do I have?
« on: January 24, 2011, 03:06:33 AM »
I guy gave me a Rotogrip Neptune, the pin is about 1:30 in relation to ring, inch right and inch above.  The cg is directly straight right of pin (2 inch pin)  There is a large wt hole just under cg.  I was told it was a 315 deg drilling but in looking it up iot didnt seem to line up.  Any idea on what this drill pattern is on the neptune and how it will react.  My PAP is 4 1/2 over and 1/2 inch up.  thanks

sounds like a label drilling with a kicked out cg. a picture would help us give you a precise answer

Yup, hard to tell - esp. if the former user's PAP is not known. From your description, it kindo sounds like this?

----p-----

o-o---cg-h

-----------

-----------

-0--------

Sounds to me as if the former user had a low track (maybe PAP of 4" over and 1.5" up) and had the ball drilled up with a strong layout, maybe label leverage - but it is just a guess.

I suppose that you get a rather arcing, continuous movement out of the ball, not really snappy.

You can figure out the ball's dual angle layout by using the wiki guide on bowlingchat.net

Years ago Denny Torgenson created a monthly newsletter.  In this letter he had layouts based on the position of a clock, with the cg being the center of the clock.  Not really sure if this was his idea or not.  Anyway, based on the picture someone drew, it looks like a 10:30 drill layout.  This was a hook set layout.

the cg is almost directly straight right of the pin just slightly down a little.  Not even close to a 10:30 drill.  If the cg were the center of the clock, then the pin would be approx. 9:15 or so. Then there is a large deep wt hole just under the cg.  so the wt hole and cg are almost finger level if not above.

Could be a 315 depending on his pap.  IF you draw a line from the pin to the cg then measure back 45 degrees to the thumb and draw a line from the pin out, his pap is somewhere on that line.

I would say that it would be a 315 gone wrong seeing as they are supposed to be drilled on ball with a 0"-1" pin.

Thats true, it could be the degree method.
