Title: Putting pitch in a Switch Grip
Post by: lefty50 on February 10, 2016, 06:03:48 PM
I know that the pitch in a thumb outfitted with a Switch Grip is in the hole, not the grip.

Question is... How much pitch COULD you put in a Switch Grip with a slug for experimentation without hitting the inner sleeve? I know the answer can't be zero, because let's face it... You have to nail a Switch Grip perfectly so that you don't change the pitch (assuming a slug instead of an insert of course).

I have been told it's impossible, but that's simply not logical. In fact, I would further postulate that the smaller the thumb, the more pitch you could add/subtract.

I'm betting it's about 1/8 lateral, something I would like to try.... What's the right answer?

Thanks in advance

It depends on the size of your thumb

When I used Switch Grips, I had them drilled up to 1/4 inch pitch differences, for experimentation purposes.

With IT, I can get up to 1/8 inch.

Thanks to both. I used to use IT, but switching back to Switch Grip now... Thumb size for me is 59/64, so I've got room to play with.
Question.. Did you find the experiment useful or a waste of time?

You should be able to easily put pitches in a switchgrip. I use IT and have all my pitches in my thumb so the ball (3/8 reverse, 1/4 away) is 0,0, seems to work fine and makes trying pitches much easier and definitely cheaper.

At 59/64 you can change the pitch 1/4" and not get into the inner sleeve at the bottom of the hole.

Sounds good, thanks to all....

My thumb is one inch. I drill the female switch grip 0/0 and put the pitch in the slug.  1/4 right 1/8 reverse. I have had no problems at all.

Also remember that switch grip makes 2 different size male slugs. I think they are 1/18 and 13/8.
