I had a total inferno drilled with the Rico layout...my driller did not drill the x hole on the ball, he said the side weight is 3/4 so its legal no need for the hole...my question is:

1. Is the x hole necessary to get the right reaction for this layout
   regardless of the side weight? (assuming it's 1oz or less side weight)
   
2.  or Is the x hole use only to make the ball legal.

The total inferno is a symetrical ball, the x hole was discuss further by rico only on the assymetrical ball.
