Title: Quick, simple, PAP question
Post by: lefty50 on May 17, 2016, 05:29:49 PM
Checking my PAP recently and believe it's 4&3/4 by 1&1/2 up, which seems pretty high... Recheck or possible?
Thanks in advance

It's possible. But it never hurts to recheck

I should have clarified... That was the recheck. I measured 4-3/4 up first time, but feel comfortable saying this is more accurate, just higher than I've seen others post.... Seems out of range to me, but maybe not.....
Other thoughts?

Looks like you're kind of heading towards a "topped" spinner release.  Thumb is exiting quick and your fingers are pulling towards the inside.   Have someone watch to see if you are getting the ball over the line good and your fingers are extending towards your target, not trying to pull the ball towards the pins.

Great input Bull, and good to know. That's exactly what my most prominent flaw is, so that fits. Now, given that the high vertical indicates I'm not staying under, here's the trick question. Would it  be better to work on release instead of drilling for my current PAP? And if so, how do I know when I've fixed it (I hope that makes sense).

The only drilling change you could consider is get some advice on your fit and see if any change in span or pitches would help you better manage the ball.  Timing could also cause an early release, as could a too heavy of a ball.  All of these possibilities need to be looked at by a knowledgeable person.  Don't sweat redrilling for your PAP.   The small difference in pin placement wouldn't be worth the time, trouble, or cost.    Some time spent conditioning your bowling arm and wrist to better support the ball would be time well spent.

To confirm your PAP location put a piece of white tape on the ball where you think the PAP is located.  Have someone watch it when you throw it, if it's correct it will look like a dot for a few feet after it hits the lane.  --  JohnP
