6" Pin to PAP Question
« on: January 24, 2007, 07:07:37 AM »
The drilling of a Pin 6" to my PAP seems to be the best drilling for me due to my slower speed.  Any comments on these longer pin placements.
Does it simply make the core stand taller and add length before the core dynamics take over?

What happens if I try a longer Pin like 7"?

Any negatives to drilling pins 6" or longer from my PAP.  I am a somewhat spinner and have a low track about and inch away from the thumb and a little further from the fingers. I believe it is 3 or 4 over and 1/2 up, which I assume means from my grip center.

You cannot put a pin further than 6 3/4" away from your PAP - a quarter circumference of a ball. Otherwise, you will receive negative flare or other funny results. At 6 3/4", the core's dynamics are zero - it is in a stable position, as well as if you'd put it on your PAP. And, yes, PAP is measured from your grip center at 90° to the side and then again 90° up/down, you are correct about this.

Where is a pin located on a typical ball of yours? As a low tracker, it should end up in the middle finger region with a 6" layout? On a stacked drilling, the CG should end up in the palm area?

The more pin distance to PAP you have, the longer the ball will go and the effect of having the core "tumbel" into a stable rotational position (which creates the flare) will be reduced.

i used to use 3 and 3/8 pin next to ring finger but lately pin above middle finger works best.  I have apradigm and the pin is fairly high above my middle finger and it wokrs the best.  the other pins which are below middle finger or below and to the left of middle finger seem to burn up or check early.

I think I am going to keep the 6" pin several inches above middle finger and try it on different balls.  It helps with the length and this seems to be what I need with my slower speed.
the two leagues I bowl in--one is wood house--heads go fast; dry to the outside and synthetics with shorter and medium oil' dry to outsides and my balls seem to hook up early and/or burn out;  I always sem to need to speed up.
So I am going to stay with the high pins for my leagues
