With the new weight hole rule are we basically done with Rico layouts?
Or would an alternative be put the pin while in the middle of your grip move it 2-3 inches right and keep cg at a 45 degree angle?
or does the extra hole at 6 3/4 from pin really make this layout work?
We were having a debate last night and wanted to see what your thoughts were.

It was the hole.
Rico, a.k.a Ric Hamlin, will sometimes post on this site, or used to at least.
While he was not the first person to ever put this drilling on a ball, he is the one who popularized it, and the person from whom it gets its name, the “Ric/oâ€.
He has said several times that it just isn’t the same without the hole.

I don't know, we drilled a Cutting Edge Hybrid with this layout on it and no hole, still rolls very good and smooth which is what the RICO layout did for me with the X Hole. Not much of a difference that I can see, but could just be my roll with it

Is it an egg if you take the yolk out?
No, it is what is left of an egg.
It used to be an egg, but then you took something vital out of the equation.

You use eggs to make a Rico? Will EggBeaters work just as well?

Just hit your eggshells with a 2000 pad and you'll be good to go.

On a symmetric without the weight hole the ball will still hook etc and roll good. The weight hole brought the psa out closer to the bowlers val changing the ball reaction vs without the weight hole.
Ric said going forward it will still be a great layout option without a weight hole for asymmetric bowling balls. I have it on a Mako Attack without the weight hole and love it.

The low balance hole also raises the track bowtie to help avoid hitting the finger holes. If your track isn't close to the fingers you may be ok without it. -- JohnP
