middle finger drilling
« on: May 09, 2008, 09:20:26 PM »
I was watching a clip of Robert Smith and i noticed he had his middle finger hole drilled a good half inch "higher" than the ring finger. Is this common among bowlers? What is the purpose of this? I am thinking maybe more revs. Thanks for your answers.

A few very high rev bowlers use this drilling: fingertip span in middle finger, conventional span in ring finger to reduce & control their rev rate.

Sean Rash, Mike Devaney are a couple.
I think Smith doesn't use this any more.

There's a name for it; it's named after a bowler in the early 1900s, Sargeant ______, whose name escapes me for the moment.

It's called a Sarge Easter Drilling.

I use it as well.
