Span question?

My span is 4 9/16 and 4 11/16. However everyone always say cut to cut and my hands don't seem to be that big as most people have around the same size or bigger. Most people are saying barely over 4 so am I using a different measurement than cut to cut probably?

If you use inserts and a thumb slug, then your cut to cut is shorter by the thickness of each.
