what to avoid for thumb tracking?

I track pretty close to thumbhole sometimes and every once in awhile I'll hear my thumbhole hitting as it goes down the lane, seems to happen with my plastic ball more often.

what things can be done to make the ball less likely to track over the thumbhole?

I'm going to be getting some new balls drilled soon and wanted to make sure I avoid anything that might make things worse instead of better.

One other possibility -- if "tracking close to the thumbhole" means close to the right side instead of to the left side, he could be a full roller with a ball drilled for a 3/4 roller.  Again, if he has a savvy driller this won't be the case.  Of course, there's always the possibility the thumping he's hearing is actually the finger holes.  Then, he probably has the pin out of the safe zone and is catching the finger holes on the last couple of flare rings.    --  JohnP

nah i'm not a full roller, I think it was unique to my spare release causing my thumbhole to get tracked over instead of near my thumbhole. I started using my normal release for spares and it seems to have fixed the problem.

Walter Ray's spare ball also tracks over all holes i guess?
